What True Love Is All About…

.

.
It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 a.m., when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb.

He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation. I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, “And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?

”He smiled as He patted my hand and said,” she doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.

“I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought…

“That is the kind of Love I want in my life.

True Love or Agape Love includes all three types of Love – unconditional, Phileo- friendship, and Eros emotional or physical intimacy.

We find this Love mentioned in the Bible, it is God’s Love and when we are Born again it is in us too, we have His seed or Nature and His Love is not lukewarm, it is Pure, Passionate and Focused.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance: against such there is no law.

1 Corinthians 13:4- 8 Love suffers long and is Kind; Love does not envy; Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the Truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

We cannot have this type of Love without the Holy Spirit working in our lives. God asks us His Redeemed Children to choose to have this Love for others even those who call us their enemy and He will empower us to Love them, one day they may be our friend in the Lord, only God knows their heart.

True Love never gives up and doesn’t count the cost of caring”

“True Love asks for forgiveness or forgives then moves on in Love, it doesn’t keep a record of wrongs”

True Love learns from the mistakes of the past and then puts then behind

True Love seeks the best in others and themselves but cares enough to warn others when needed, and when in danger appreciates correction too because True Love accepts and Loves the person but hates the sins and yet is tolerant of weaknesses and overlooks shortcomings.

True Love puts others first serving them with a humble Spirit

True Love is also so much more  as we can see in the Bible.
.

Thankfulness is seeing a Sunrise or Sunset and knowing who to thank.

.The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything they have and are thankful. This is because their happiness is not in the things of this world but in the Creator of it.

True Love, Peace, Hope and Joy comes from Friendship with the Lord…

(Amen to that!)

  2. Here is a little affirmation that I learned at a Church Service once. I put my name in the blanks and say it out loud every morning. It helps. To experience love one has to become love first.

    __________ is patient and kind.

__________ is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.

__________ does not demand his/her own way.

__________ is not irritable, and keeps no record of when he/she has been wronged.

__________ is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

__________ never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

    Adapted from 1 Corinthains 13: 4-7 NLT

    Great post Anne
