Meany Moms

Was your Mom a meany ? I know mine was. She really knew how to be mean to me and my Brothers and Sisters.

While other kids had takeaway,  sometimes just chocolate bars and soda pop for breakfast because their Mom was off to work early, we had to have, as Mom called it good balanced nutrition,  like Milk and porridge and  cereal, or eggs and bacon even cheese on toast or Vegemite …Sooooo mean!

For lunch, we had to eat sandwiches and fruit instead of junk food as she called it …mean

Our Mother fixed us a dinner that was different from a lot of  other kids, there was vegetables or salad with fish, or meat or chicken and even a desert, now that’s mean too… yep we  even had to eat  them.

Mom was like a Prison Warden she had to know where we were going and with whom and you are not going to believe this but we had to be home by a set time… and this is real mean,  if we were too late we were

grounded and I was over sixteen before I could even look at a boy … Well not really but I wasn’t allowed to go out with them till then.

We had to go to  School everyday and  we had to do Homework before we went out to play! real mean!

This is mean too, Mom use to stop us when we were fighting and even make us say sorry too! can you believe that!!!

Mom  had the nerve to break the Child Labour Laws by making us work, we even had to wash the dishes, make the beds,  and sweep the floors and vacuum…

Learn to cook,  do laundry, empty the trash, all sorts of cruel jobs…

like walking the dog

and feeding the cat

Mom made us learn things like Swimming,

Music and Sport  and she made us practice too… just so mean.

Mom always insisted on us telling the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth. We went to Sunday School so we could learn how to be honest and also how to be kind, meany Mom even shared how much God Loved us and told us often that Dad and her did too and that they only wanted the very best for us and would never seek to  willingly hurt us… Life was really tough!

Mother wouldn’t let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them even though, I told her that they were really cute!

Because of our Mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught bashing,  shoplifting, vandalizing other people’s property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Someday when my Children are old enough to understand the logic and reasoning that motivates a Parent, I will tell them, as my meany Mom told me…

I Loved you enough . . . To ask where you were going, with whom and what time you would be home

I Loved you enough to warn you before you discovered that your new best friends would let you down because there values were wrong but when you didn’t listen and got hurt I still comforted you.

I Loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes, but you learnt to finish what you started.

I Loved you enough to let you see my controlled anger and disappointment, you needed to understand that wrong behaviour has consequences and to learn to obey us as your Parents and respect us, even if you think we have it wrong when it isn’t.

I Loved you enough to let you see tears in my eyes so you would understand it was not a weakness or a sin to express emotion, we can be real but to also learn to resolve what is motivating the strong emotions that may lead us into sin.

I Loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions when you didn’t take my advise, even though the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I Loved you enough . . . To say NO or warn you when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I’m thankful I won them, because in the end you won too and someday when your Children are old enough to understand the logic and reason that motivates Parents, you will tell them that you Loved them enough to be Mean too.

Now that we have all left home, we are all seeking to be caring, kind, hard-working and honest adults, who Love The Lord and we are thankful that we are gifted and educated, and yes you guessed it we are also doing our best to be mean Parents just like Mom and Dad were.

I think that is what’s wrong with the world today. It just doesn’t have enough meany Mums and Dads like ours…

Do you know and it’s the Truth,  they were so mean they would always agree with each other and wouldn’t let us take over… Now that is real mean! or is it real Love?

Our Abba Father

Our Heavenly Father is the perfect Parent, He Loves us and strengthens and protects us from the harsher realities of life, like Spiritual death or suffering pain that is more than we can bear and sometimes even physical death. His plans for us are for good not evil, it’s not His will we suffer or have hardship or does He willingly allow it but is tolerant and patient not wanting anyone to perish.  He feels our hurt and grieves when we experience hardship or when we suffer because of our own wrong doing. He never leaves us but helps us as we go through all the trials of life and when we fail He rescues us, until we are perfected in His Love, being Born again of His seed. 1 John 3:1-11

Lamentations 3: 33 For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Isaiah 43:1-3 – Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 121:1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made Heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

  1. God love as so much to that he shows how much he cares even if many times we have wronged him. Our parents love us so much to care enough to correct our wrongs and prevent us from making grave mistakes or getting hurt. A beautiful post of what a true parent is. God bless my friend.

    • I agree dear friend and thankfully God does not cause us to suffer, (see below) the rod of correction is The Holy Spirit and if we do wrong we have time out which is not pleasant, nor is reaping the evil we sow and forgiving others who hurt us.

I just hope I was a “meany mum” to my two boys! The key is the motivation of the heart: love our kids enough to dare to give them God’s best! Such an appropriate post for Mother’s Day!

        • Thank you again Jalal, I’m sorry I have not visited recently although I have saved your Posts to do so. I have been looking after two Teenage girls for the last two weeks and will be caring for another one for a few days, so I’m behind in Blogging but I hope to catch up soon.

One thing I was reminded of as I looked after them, was how very important Parents are to their Children and how much they need a good example of God’s Love from them. Both girls have not had this nor have their siblings and they are all hurting very much and so they hurt others and will continue to do so until Jesus heals them but they have to know Him first to ask for His healing.

God Bless you Jalal greatly – Anne.

I received this e-mail Message years ago on Mother’s Day, it was from a friend in America, I Posted it on my Blog 4 years ago but as I was reading it today, I was thinking; I wonder if you as Parents can identify with it now, so I Rebloged it hoping to find out if you can or is it past it’s use by date, or do Mothers have the same values today?

Really great post. It reminds me of this popular scripture, “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.” (Proverbs 13:24).

I think synonyms for meany mom include, Loving mom and wise mom.

And yes, the graphics made a lot of difference.

    Remain blessed..

Hi Johnson, thank you for visiting again and I’m pleased you like the Animations I use them a lot , they are very popular in Australia and it means we use all our senses.

God like our parents also disciplines us but not the way many think, He tells us He does not willingly afflict us Lamentations 3: 33 and His rod is differant then man’s image of it, it’s referring to His words of Truth Isaiah 11:3-5 given by The empowering of the Holy Spirit through Jesus who is The Truth, they will put down the wicked but I’m sure to you like me they are a comfort as shown in Psalm 23 : 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

So much violence even in the Church, this is not discipline but uncontrolled evil anger, and many suffer especially children. God allows man to suffer the penalty for the wrong they do and like all discipline it is not pleasant but it’s man’s choice, like it was with the Prodigal son. We need to pray mankind who seeks their own way and depends on their own understanding, will come to their senses..

      Christian Love Anne.

  11. I wished I had a mean mother – well, mean according to this.

However, I now have a Father whom SOME would describe as mean and as a joy-killer, but I know differently, and so do you and anyone who has come to know my loving, heavenly Father. Sure, He forbids some things, but only for my own good, and He SHOWERS me abundantly with all good things.

What an amazing, loving, giving Father God!
