Tyler’s Story

It started at conception.  A genetic defect that would profoundly alter three lives four, including mine, too.

The seeds of tragedy, pain and victory were born in a tiny little boy named Tyler Lee on May 22, 1984.  I held him for the first time when he was not quite 12 hours old.  His parents were — and are — my two best friends.  And now I had a third best friend, this perfect miracle, this baby boy.

By the time he was six months, we all noticed something wrong.  He wasn’t sitting up.  He had trouble rolling over.  Constant constipation plagued him.  At eight months, his parents took him to a specialist.  Emotional, uncertain days and many tests later, their doctor told them, “I’m very sorry.  Your baby has Hoffman-Werding disease.  It’s the most virulent form of muscular dystrophy”.  Into the silence that followed his words, the doctor added, “Tyler will never walk, probably never sit up.  He probably won’t live much beyond the age of 2”.  The tests clearly confirmed the terrible diagnosis.  Tyler had almost no muscle development.  Not even his intestines could work properly.

That night we sat silently together, sharing our tears, holding and cherishing their little Tyler.  The pain was too new, too raw.

They called me on Sunday to say that they were having a prayer meeting with friends and the elders from their church Monday night.  They were going to anoint Tyler with oil and ask for God’s healing — in faith that no matter what the answer was, God knew best and loved Tyler even more than they did.  Of course I’d be there, even though absolutely nothing in my conservative background had ever considered such a bold assault on Heaven.  Monday evening the elders from their church and their closest friends gathered in the family room with Tyler.  Heart joined heart in prayers both silent and verbal as we approached the Throne of Heaven for Tyler’s healing.  There was one focus, one accord, one hope in God our Heavenly Father.

The next day, Tuesday, Tyler had another appointment with the specialist.  His parents called me the moment they reached home.  “He’s healed — completely!  God gave us our miracle!”  God instantly, miraculously, divinely healed Tyler Lee Roark that night.  Where there had been no muscle function, now every muscle function in his body tested absolutely normal that Tuesday morning.  “It’s a miracle”, his doctor said, “I can’t explain it.  He’s a perfectly normal eight-month-old baby.  Take him home”.

Today, Tyler is a healthy, active 11-year-old who gave his heart to Jesus as Saviour five years ago.  Tyler holds national long-distance track titles and state records in both Iowa and Oklahoma.  Untrained and uncoached, Tyler’s running ability is a gift.  He started setting state records when he was 9; his first national title came as a 10-year-old.  He has a room filled with trophies and ribbons … and a humble spirit that lets him enjoy running — whether he wins or loses.  He’s the first to congratulate others and be happy for them if they win.  He knows that winning isn’t the only reason he’s there.  He knows that his ability is a gift from God and that he’s there to glorify his Heavenly Father by running, by doing his best, and showing others Christ in him.

God has chosen to give Tyler a tremendous athletic ability that has brought him media attention, both TV and newspaper.  And in every interview, his parents joyfully give God the glory and tell how Tyler was healed.

By Mary Nelson, from “A Double Dose of God’s Vitamin C for the Spirit”

God knows what we can carry and when needed carries our load for us, as His Children we never walk alone, sometimes what may take one person a lifetime for another it may take much less. God’s planes for us are always good they are never to harm us and His timing is perfect.

For another wonderful story click links below, Noah’s healing was differant and took longer but he was healed by God’s hand as we all are regardless of the way He chooses to heal us or He may strengthen us to walk through it with Him and so bless us and others in another way.

Thanks for this story. It was a blessing to me today. I wonder if you could put me in contact with Tyler or his parents. Soon I’ll begin work on “God’s Little Miracle Book IV.” This one would be a good one to include in that collection, if they were willing. Look on my website to get my e-mail address. SallyJadlow.com. Thanks.

    • Sorry Sally but as I shared in my About, the Stories in my Posts, not meaning my own experiences, I have collected over the years by e-mail including this one which I posted as the third person, mostly I take them as Truth but do check out some but not with Snopes they seek to discredit most Christian Stories.

This Story was written by Mary Nelson and came from “A Double Dose of God’s Vitamin C for the Spirit” as noted above but I believe they are no longer in the Media, they use to be very well known and many shared their stories, some are just so wonderful, we do indeed have a God of the impossible and what He gives to us freely, freely we give to others.

I will look forward to you sharing more about your Book on your Blog Sally but just as a suggestion, why don’t you ask other Bloggers about their own experiences that shows God’s Miraculous intervention in their lives, I’m sure like me they would be only to willing to share them with you to bring glory to God, as we know He is still doing Miracles today.

        • It was just a thought Sally but I was thinking later, how good it would be if all us Christian Bloggers shared God’s unexplained happenings in our lives, we hear about others but not each others unless we Post it, I’m sure it would make your Book much more personal.

I had God’s intervention with the Printer ink which I Posted about (see link below) and a few other unexplained happenings in my life as well as Healings and once again last Sunday with Mo-Joe, God intervened again, He often shows us in a tanagabile way He is with us regardless of the Storm.

Wonderful stories, Anne. Could I possibly include some in the next God’s Little Miracle Book IV? I usually rewrite and if the person doesn’t want their name used for some reason, I change the name and or place.

            • Feel free to use my life experiences Sally and also to use Anne or Freedomborn, or a Blogging friend, whatever you prefer, I believe whenever we share about how God has touched our lives or other peoples lives, like you have done, we are bringing Glory to Him… He is very much, God of the impossible!

Without His intervention the good things that have happened to me over many years even before I knew Him in my heart as Lord and including Sunday with our Mo – Joe, would have been impossible and all have been confirmed and witnessed by others, Why have they happened, the only answer I have is, He Loves us , He Cares and He shows He is close to us.

  3. This is so inspiring…I have been dealing with a Desmoid Tumor (http://www2.mdanderson.org/depts/oncolog/articles/10/11-12-novdec/11-12-10-1.html) for the last 5 year without much progress…it is stories like this that give me hope to wait on the Lord –

Isaiah 40:28-31 (KJV) Hast thou not known ? hast thou not heard , that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary ? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary , and the young men shall utterly fall : But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run , and not be weary ; and they shall walk , and not faint .

What a Wonderful Father we have. How great He is that He turns what we see as disasters into miracles. He is always there. He hears every word. Sees every tear. And He responds like the good Father He is. When we yield to Him, we are always victorious.
Thanks you for sharing your testimony and that of Camary and Noah. It touched me deeply.
    Love you,

Yes Ron it is so True what you say, it upsets me greatly when people say God causes our hardship or as the saying goes …. if He brings you to it He will get you through it…. He does not bring suffering to us anymore then we would cause harm to happen to those we love.

Some people do not know God’s Nature so they don’t understand what the Scriptures are really talking about…sad but True.

Thanks for sharing Ron – Christian Love Anne.
