Candle of Hope

At the Seattle Special Olympics, the mentally or physically challenged Athletes, were standing on the starting line
 for the 100 m race…

The gun fired and the race began. Not everyone at first was running, but everyone wanted to participate and win.

They ran in threes, a boy tripped and fell, did a few somersaults and started crying.

The others heard him crying.

They slowed down and looked behind them. They stopped and came back…

A girl with Down Syndrome sat down next to him, hugged him and asked, “Feeling better now? ”Then, they walked shoulder to shoulder to the finish line.

The whole crowd stood up and applauded. The applause lasted a very long time…

Because deep down inside us, we all know that one of the most important things in life is much more than winning for ourselves

One of the most important things in this life is to help others to find the Truth and the real values in life. Even if that means slowing down and changing our own  race.

If we take the time to share with others those things that are True, uplifting and encouraging and even if at times we need to warn them of danger or correct them in Love we will have contributed to lighting a Candle of Hope in their heart that will one day burn brightly…

And a Candle loses nothing if it is used to

 light another one.”

1 Corinthians 1: 26-31 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. That, according as it is written, He that gloried, let him glory in the Lord.

I just love that story , puts our competitiveness to shame , they see the journey as the best thing , we only see the winning. Shame on us !

Hi Ron, yes how wonderful these people are, as you know I have cared for the Mentally Challenged and yes they have weaknesses and shortcomings like we all have as well as there disability but they have the heart of a child and offer so much Joy, and yes like children they also copy what we do.

Do you remember Jody who came to my Funday School, she was 25 but emotionally 5, we use to walk the dogs together and sing in full view of the neighbours, I’m sure they must have thought I had lost it, we would be singing as well as doing the actions all the favourites, like Away in a manger even in March and Twinkle Twinkle little star and if your happy and you know it clap your hands, they were very joyful days for me. These Children/Adults regardless of their age offer like all Children a gift that comes from the heart of God.

Thanks for sharing Ron – Love Anne

  2. Amen Anne! Running the Christian race is more important than any race this world could have. No greater prize is there than crossing the finish line into the arms of our Savior! We are to stop and help others along the way who may have fallen. Christ had enough compassion and love to see to those in need and we should all follow that example.

    God bless you my friend……..
