Old Barns and Restored Lives.

A stranger came by the other day with an offer that set me to thinking.
He wanted to buy the old barn that sits out by the highway.
I told him right off he was not thinking right.

He was a city type, you could tell by his clothes, his car his hands and the way he talked.

He said he was driving by and saw that beautiful barn sitting out in the tall grass and wanted to know if it was for sale.I told him he had a funny idea of beauty.

Sure, it was a handsome building in its day. But then, there’s been a lot of winters pass with their snow and ice and howling wind.

The summer suns beat down on that old barn till all the paint’s gone, and the wood has turned silver-grey.Now the old building leans a good deal, looking kind of tired.Yet, that fellow called it beautiful.

That set me to thinking.I walked out to the field and just stood there, gazing at that old barn. The stranger said he planned to use the lumber to line the walls of his den in a new country home he’s building down the road.

He said you couldn’t get paint that beautiful Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching sun,
Only that can produce beautiful barn wood.

It came to me then. We’re a lot like that, you and I. Only it’s on the inside that the beauty grows with us.

Sure we turn silver grey too… and lean a bit more than we did when we were young and full of sap.

But the Good Lord knows and we don’t walk alone.

And as the years pass He uses the hard weather of our lives, the dry spells and the stormy seasons for good and Trusting in Him to do so beautifies our souls that nothing else can produce.

And often folks holler because the want life to always be easy and so they don’t Trust God in the hard times! they even blame Him for them.

They took the old barn down today and hauled it away to beautify a rich man’s house.

Someday we too will go to the Heavenly Home where the Lord has prepared a place for us so beautiful and so wonderful that we
cannot even imagine its dimensions.

There will be no storms or dry spells because we will have been prepared and made ready to enjoy all the Treasures that have been stored up for us by the works that God prepared for us to do in Jesus’ name even before we were, born, works that we have been  equipped and empowered to do by Him.

This Treasure is not of sticks or straw or even bricks and mortar it cannot become weathered and decayed, it is of Love, Joy, Peace and Hope, overflowing in abundance and these will not disappoint us.

So no matter what Storms or dry spells we face in life we are not alone and nothing material or anybody else can destroy what the Lord has prepared for us and as we serve and glorify Him in all we do and say, we may not win the approval of  those in the world …

But He will lift us up and give us a place of honour and we will walk with Him and talk with Him and our friendship will never end.

So we Trust the Lord everyday in  everything and know  He will use what ever comes to  prepare and equip us although we may not be aware of the role they play they will contribute to the Hope, Joy, and Peace so  we have  Treasure that is stored for us in Eternity.

God is our Potter, and  is in the process of moulding and shaping us, working through the Fruit of The Spirit with gentleness and Love as we choose to walk in them and as we seek Him it’s His hand that guides us and it’s His Love that we impart.

Through the good and the bad we give thanks because when we Love the Lord He works all things together for good.

Now I know what to do with all those pictures of old barns I have on my computer. Share them with a story like this one!! Well, not EXACTLY like it, but reading it got me to thinking along that line, that on the outside I’m an old barn, but on the inside I’m trying to get rid of all the manure left there in years past and use what the Lord gave me to beautify the area around me. Thanks for sharing this!!

Yes I too have been inspired by other peoples messages and have posted something simular, we often have differant people following us and those who we follow, I mostly find their imput very uplifting and their comments encouraging..

As the Scriptuers tell us come close to God and Satan will flee, Goodness is a foul smell to him he loves the fragance of evil.

Beauty is within, not out … your beautiful!

Thank you LubbyGirl for sharing from your heart.

  5. Annie, I love this … and you used my picture too! Thank you for sharing this.

I don’t know what there is about old barns, but I love them. Maybe it is curiosity, wondering about all the things they have ‘seen’ as they stood in the weather. These pictures are beautiful, and the story is so wonderful.

Praise God for His love, His grace, and for preparing us for what is to come.

Hi my friend Dru, how very True we are being prepared and have already been prepared to live today in victory, we lack nothing in Christ Jesus, we are equipped to be a blessing to others in His name, we may not always understand how or see the fruit that comes, but God will use what we have done in Love to uplift and encourage, to strengthen and to help others and in so doing we too are uplifted but God has a balance in all things we too need to take time to enjoy the blessings He has given us . Old barns do indeed have beauty as you shared and for the reasons you shared but once they were new and their beauty was also appreciated. I think this is why we should value both the old and the new and gleam from them what’s good.

Love and much Joy to you – Annie
