Anne, What an amazing list of the symbols of Christmas! It is all encompassing of the many tradtions brought from all around the world to unite in the true meaning behind every one of these symbols, the love of God who loved us enough to send His Son for each and every one of us. The nativity is the Truth embodied in a symbol. Thank you for this list that points us to Christ every time we see them. Many who read this will never have thought about these symbols or not been taught about them. A priceless gift to give babes in Christ to see the reasons why these things are pulled out year after year. Not for traditions sake… but for Christ’s sake and the remembrance of Him in all of them that draw us closer and closer to Him. Thank you, also, for such simple word pictures that Mom’s can use to share about the love of Christ to their children every Christmas as they get out all of the symbols. What better way to know Christ our Savior than to learn about Him at the feet of their Moms.

    • Thank you Debbie for your uplifting encouragement and yes the Christmas Symbols bring Hope in knowing Jesus our King of Kings.

When I received the original ones by e-mail years ago they motivated me to look at other Christmas Symbols and see how they reflected Jesus and each year I do the same and I have another one to add again this year.

I enjoyed sharing with you this morning Debbie, you are a Blessing.

I am pretty sure I saw this when you posted it before but it was still a good one to see again. I enjoy seeing what all the Christmas symbols mean. I don’t think we have crackers here in the US but remember thinking that I wanted to look for them last time I saw this but forgot to do that. I noticed a new Christmas store in my neighborhood today, I am going to go in there sometime this next week and see if maybe they have them. Have a great day!

        • I appreciate what you shared Jalal and I also believe we are all people of Worth, for God so Loved the World, that’s everyone not just some and Jesus willingly died for us all.

But what if someone was in danger because of what they were doing, would you warn them Jalal or look the other way or maybe just smile, what if they were doing something very wrong ,would you let them continue regardless of the consequences to them or others and say nothing just to keep the peace and what if they wouldn’t listen when you did warn them even though their life was in danger, what would you do?

          Blessings – Anne.

I like the explanation of the cracker as we do not have crackers here in the U.S.. I was familiar with them only because my dad and Australian step-mom have shared them with us in the past!
God draws us closer to Him through the symbols of the season! Kind of like a parable, the deeper we dig, the more we see of God in our ordinary lives and celebrations! 🙂

    • I enjoy Crackers too Debbie especially the jokes that get you thinking, their also about fun and God gives us enjoyment, don’t we just love to see Children enjoying themselves.

You are very wise in your observations Debbie, I have been adding to the Symbols on this message for years and they always amaze me when I see as you shared how much of The Lord is in our everyday lives including our Celebrations and Symbols but to be honest Debbie if your focus was worldly you would not see Him in them , you can because your heart is one with Him.

Annie, I agree with you that so many people miss the symbolism. I was thinking of Romans 1:20, ” For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood fro what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” God is speaking to the world, but sadly the world choose not to listen or the world listens to the wrong things!

Thank you Anne for the stories of all the Christmas symbols and their origins. The most important symbol of Christmas for us in Australia is the Nativity Scene . Here is depicted the reason for the season namely the birth of Christ . All the attempts by some misguided people to make children , say; Happy Holiday and say a Celebration Cake instead of what we always knew as Christmas cake and Happy Christmas .In Australia the old traditional values surrounding the celebration of Christmas the Carol Singing, Nativity Scenes still hold their importance .

    Blessings
