Adopted … for those who waited, your a gift sent from God…

Baby 7012SDPsalm 68:4-6 A Father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in His Holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families: He bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

SDAdoption is more than just a word; to some it’s a wonderful long awaited blessing that brings great Love and Joy into their lives and to those who consider their unborn child before themselves, it’s a choice to allow their helpless baby to have the gift of life and to be wanted and Loved. To some others, sadly it means that you’re inferior, less than those who are Birth Children. I read about a woman who said to her younger sister… “I still love you even though you’re Adopted.”

SDTo be Adopted by God means we are His precious and cherished Children, His Sons and Daughters. Read below just how much He  values us….

SDEphesians 1:4-6 According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be Holy and without blame before Him in Love, Having predestination us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved.

SDRomans 8:14-16 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons/daughters of God.  For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of Adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, (NASB)

SDThose who have read my “A life that is Blessed ”  know I’m Adopted and how that has impacted me for good and bad, ( see Link below) but today I want to share my friend Kathy’s Story about her Adoption , told in her own words. Kathy is a wonderful friend. We have been through the ups and downs life brings together. Kathy helped me greatly in setting up the Heavenly Lights, program for my Christian Weight Loss Groups. She is part of my Blessed Life that I thank God for often.

KATHY - 7SDKathy’s Adoption  Story…

SDMany people have problems with the idea of Adoption.  I have never had any issues with mine.  Maybe because my brother and I were adopted by two very special people who loved us as their very own.  My parents told me that I was adopted when I was eight years old, so I grew up with the knowledge, instead of having it thrust upon me at a later age when it would have become a shock.

SDI will never, ever forget what my father said to me when he told me.  He said “Mum and I couldn’t have children of our own, so God gave you and your brother to us as a very special gift”.  He also added, “Other people have to have their children if they want them or not, but we picked you out special!” Not that biological children are not wanted!!! I think it was just his way of trying to get across to me how very special we were to him.

SDThe word “adopted” was never used.  Not because we were ashamed of it, but because my parents absolutely refused to put any label on us that showed that we were not “really” theirs. If ever my father heard someone introduce their child as “my adopted son/daughter”, he would look as if he were going to haul off and hit them! (Which of course, he never did, because he was a kind, gentle man).

SDI have two biological children, and I know that the mothering I got from my mum, and the mothering I gave my children, are both identical.  It isn’t the act of giving birth that makes you a mother, but what comes after it.  And the care I got from my mum was “above and beyond the call of duty”.

SDThen, a few years ago, the family of my mother’s brother did a family tree.  I never saw it, but my mother angrily told me that under her and dad’s names they had written “no issue”.  She was livid!  We did not come from their bodies, but we were legally theirs, and they could have written “Adopted children”, instead of putting down on paper that we did not exist.  I was going to voice my opinion, but mum begged me not to, so I keep my feelings to myself.

SDIn any case, when you have Parents that want you and love you so much, it does heal the hurts.

SDMy father died at 61.  Now, 40 years later, I still miss him very much.  My mother is in a hostel, and recently turned 98.  Now, every time my brother and I visit her, she says “I have the two best kids in the world”, or “We made the best choice”.  God made the best choice of Parents for us.

SD

I have now been Adopted twice.  The first time when I was a baby, and the second when I was in my early thirties, and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour.  Then I became a child of God, my Heavenly Father.  Since then He has shown me in countless ways how much He loves me, and how He is always there for me.  And I often wonder if He, too, gets as upset as my earthly Parents did when people deny that He is their TRUE Heavenly Father.

SDThank you Kathy for sharing  your Adoption Story with us, and also  your Faith in our God of Love, may you be greatly Blessed as you have have blessed others.

SDChristian Love  from both of us Anne.

Heartwarming story by Kathy of her relationship with her mother and father . they obviously were Christians and knew that the two children were Gods gift to them Sad when we read many natural born families don’t have that loving relationship . Glad God thinks that we are a gift to Him ! Guess that’s why He loves us ,no strings attached , called Grace !

      Hey Ron
You know some of my story, and the person I was before the Lord came into my life. For as many blessings, there were some “happenings” that turned me inside out. But Praise God, He found me, and turned me right side out again! I often think of just how much He has blessed me since I asked Him into my life, and I am overwhelmed by it all. Of course, one of those blessings has been your friendship. Thank you.

  7. Once again, you made my heart soar with words of love, hope and faith. “Adoption is more than just a word; to some it’s a wonderful long awaited blessing that brings great Love and Joy into their lives and to those who consider their unborn child before themselves, it’s a choice to allow their helpless baby to have the gift of life and to be wanted and Loved.” My sister just adopted a beautiful baby girl. It was planned but God planned it for them. One day, a friend just called them about the baby and that very day they travelled by land and sea to be with her. It was a miracle. I am so happy for them. God bless you, your family and all that opens their hearts to our orphans in this world.

    Hi Annie
Thanks for allowing my story to be told. It is true that some adoption stories do not end well. But for every one that doesn’t, I know lots that do. And I know that there are many, many children out there — my brother and I included — who would be homeless, or in an orphanage, or worse, aborted, if adoption was not available. And I think of people like my Mum and Dad, who are willing to give children like us a loving home. There is another part of my story I never told. Apparently my birth grandmother spent a week in a psychiatric hospital, so my papers were marked “history of mental illness”. One week in a psychiatric hospital is by no means an issue of mental illness! But three couples refused me before Mum and Dad took me in. To them, I was a child in need of a home, and they weren’t going to focus on any other issue than that. Thank God for them!
See ya soon my friend. Keep up the good work!

    • Thank you again Kathy for sharing your story with my Blogging friends, you have a wonderful story to tell, as for your Grandmother’s diagnosis, they often make mistakes with Mental illness, it’s mostly just guess work, especially with Depression, it can even be caused through what is eaten but how sad that you were not wanted because of this but then how good that your wonderful Parents took you in the end … God is so good.

One more small detail that I forgot — my Grandmother was married to an alcoholic and had 19 children (including my birth mother). Who wouldn’t end up where she did!

        • Hummmm some who have just one child end up the same, it all depends on your tucker is it God’s or the worlds. With your Grandmother only being in hospital for a week we can see who kept you safe, your mother could have aborted you but God knew you would stand strong for Him against all opposition and His planes for you were good, He intervened and so you had Parents that cherished you like He does, He knows how much we can endure, some he lightens the load, others He strengthens.

Thank you for your thankfulness for those who commented.

Love you dear friend, I will be in touch soon – Anne

  9. What a great and moving story. It is so true that it is not the act of giving birth that matters so much but that which follows. Nowadays we hear a lot of inspirational stories of people whose own parents abandoned them and then those who adopted them were angels of God for them. I loved the part where she says that second time around Our Lord Jesus adopted her. It reminded me that yesterday my 91 year old neighbor said to me while talking that we are all God’s children. It made me feel so good. Great post, I appreciate your kind gesture to share it with us. Thanks and God bless.
