Our Family

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,”Oh excuse me please”
 was my reply. He said, “Please excuse me too;
 I wasn’t watching for you.”
We were very polite, this stranger and I,
Then we went on our way as we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
how we treat our loved ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still, when I turned,
 I nearly knocked him down.
“Move out of the way,” I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart-broken.
I didn’t realize how harshly I’d spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God’s still small voice came to me and said,
“While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse which
 when you do you are also abusing me.

Go and look on the kitchen floor, you’ll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you, he picked them himself…pink, red, purple, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise, you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.”By this time, I felt very small,and now my tears began to fall.  I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
“Wake up, little one, wake up”, I said.

“Are these the flowers you picked for me?”
 he smiled, “I found ‘em, out by the tree. I picked ‘em because they’re pretty like you,
 I knew you’d like ‘em, especially the blue.”

 I said, “Son, I’m very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn’t have yelled at you that way.” he said…
“Oh, Mom, that’s okay, I Love you anyway.”
I said, “Son, Love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.”

 Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days? But the family we left behind will feel the loss in many ways for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work and the things of this world than into the things that matter, like the Lord our spouses, own family, an unwise investment indeed, don’t you think?

  So what is behind the Story? Do you know what the word
Family means?

Family = (F)ather (A)nd (M)other (I) (L)ove (Y)ou

   We also have our Christian Church Family…
                  Church Family = Christ + His Body + Unity + Righteousness
 + Charity (meaning Love)  + Hope

And we are a Family — Our Heavenly Father, the Protector, the Provider, the Comforter, the Nurturer, and we are His Redeemed Children, and He Loves each of us and calls us by name. Our Lord draws us to Him with compassion and understanding healing and restoring us.

 Now this is a beautiful picture…

  4. You’ve done it again Anne – a beautiful old poem set with your brand of pics and then turning to our spiritual family as well. A family is such a blessing. A local Church family is such a blessing. An extended Christian family, united in the Body of Christ, including many thousands we have never met is such a blessing as well. We can touch hearts even though separated by miles and oceans. We serve an amazing God who pours out His blessings on us.

      • Thank you Anne. You did give me this award some time ago and it is on my blog.

        Anne, I don’t think you’ll need to wear a rose, since we will all have perfect knowledge. I often think of the Transfiguration when Peter, James & John had no trouble recognising Moses and Elijah.

        I have had no internet connection since Saturday and just had it re-connected this afternoon – another Telstra ‘mishap’ as they worked on lines. I’m trying to play ‘catch up’ again.

          Thank you Angela I thought it strange but I didn’t notice your acceptance on my Blog and I didn’t want to leave you out, next time I’m on your Blog I will have a look around, are your cubords tidy now?

          What about the Rose of Sharon Hmmmm and the Scriptures tell us we can know all things now if we have God’s wisdom and are empowered by The Holy Spirit, we have the mind of Christ, 1 Corinthians 2:16 He is our only Teacher…. How good is that!

          • The Telstra technicians “fixed” my connection this morning. They put in a new channel. Of course, after they “fixed” it, it stopped working again. After one and a half hours on the phone with iinet they finally restored my connection and (hopefully) it will now keep working.

      Thank you KingdomofGodservantv4 I thought the same when someone sent it to me, it is adapted but mostly original. Our families and also our Church families, which we hope they are in Unity and pray for this, need to be treated with Love and respect, we won’t be saying…. I wish I had done more work at the end but who did I Love, support and encourage and who Loved and supported and encouraged me and we will do so with a thankful heart to our Lord of Lords and King of kings, He Unites us in Loving friendship with others.

    Yes sad as it is Anne ,it seems our families and loved ones always seem to be the first to catch our ill humour ,and we think nothing of it . How sad is that ,we do need a good wake up call.

      Very True Love and as I said to Angie that is what Jesus was trying to do with the Pharisees, give them a wake up call but they still would not listen, some hearts are very hard.

      Yes in our families our words need to be kind but honest too and if we have anger we need to resolve what is causing it not surpress it or continue expressing it in our words and actions and we need to help others resolve their anger too and if we are responsiable for their anger we need to right the wrong we are doing that offends them, not blame them and we will do this if we have God’s Love in our heart and not fleshy pride or ego.

    I’m going to use this for my SS class tomorrow 🙂 We’re talking about kindness, and sometimes the place we find the least kindness is in that classroom. I want them to learn to treat each other well (as family). Jr High kids can be pretty mean to each other – duh! Anyway, thanks for the inspiration. Angie

      Hi Angie as I shared before I don’t know who the Author is of the original story but I think they expressed it very well what happens in some families and not just with Mum and Dad but the Children too, they do copy.

      I know your Children will be blessed by hearing that kindness in our words is very important but and I’m sure you will agree, Truth is the most important thing we can share and we will even if at times we need to be firm. I think of Jesus who got the whip out and called the Pharisees Vipers but then told them they were Loved, their hardness of heart grieved Him greatly, Jesus never wore a mask.

      Hi Little Sister, so good to see you blogging again I have missed you greatly, I was going to check up on you with Pastor Brian but then I thought that would not have been the right thing to do, your privacy is important but you were often in my thoughts and in my prayers.

      Yes very True as you shared Karin, Truth never ages or changes even if deception blinds the eyes of those whose focus is wordly and who depend on their own understanding or others instead of Jesus our only Teacher.

  11. Anne, what you have shared here is beautiful and true. We sometimes forget to show love to those who are under the same roof. This is a message very dear to my heart that should be shared for others to know , we should follow God’s love wherever we go. So I am reblogging this post for all to see, the love given by God is a seed we must plant for all to know. We must love the young, the old, strangers, friends and family too. Because we must always remember God loved us first. This is what He wants us to do too.

    Thank you Anne.
