A Wooden Bowl

A frail old man went to live with his Son, Daughter-in-law, and
four- year – old Grandson.

The Old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered.

The family ate together at the table. But the elderly Grandfather’s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.
When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth…
The Son and Daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.
“We must do something about Father,” said the Son.
“I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.”
So the Husband and Wife set a small table in the corner.

There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.
Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.

When the family glanced in Grandfathers direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.

Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions
when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four year old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the Father noticed his son playing with
wood scraps that were on the floor.

He asked the child sweetly, “What are you making?”  the boy answered…

“Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in
when I grow up”  The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.

The words so stuck the Parents so they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks.Though no word was spoken,
both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grabdfather’s hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family.

No longer did the  Husband or Wife seem to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb.

If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for Family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives.

The wise Parent realizes that every day the building blocks are being laid for the Child’s future. Let us be wise builders and role models.

We always remember…

“What goes around, comes around! “However, “Treating others as we would treat ourselves or the way we would like to be treated will grant us more Love then not, and we can start at any time to do this…

” It’s never too late” and no matter what our Role models were like we
can change by changing our Focus.

This reminds me of the time when I had to take care of my grandmother before she passed away.

Hi KingdomofGodservantv4, well I’m sure your not meaning you made a little wooden bowl for her but that you showed her Love and respect, as this is you way, I hope that you have wonderful memories of your time together before she was ill.

God askes us to be respectful with all those who are Senior to us, He even tells us to stand up when they walk in room, now that’s respect but you don’t need to do this with me KingdomofGodservantv4, just a nod of the heard in my direction and a humble look will be enough 😀

  2. You touched my heart today with this moving story. Children picks up what their parents do and say. What we do to others will go back on us. Moral lesson, love and respect our elderlies, our old love ones who sacrificed so much so we can be who we are now. What we are is because of them. One day, by God’s will I hope to go back and take care of my parents and I wish to show my son the gift of family and our love for each other. God bless you and Ron.

Yes, Children can be deep, inspite of themselves. Children are closer to God than most adults may ever know. Though as they get older, a distance from God also begins to grow.

Interesting to know that you teach kids. It takes great patience and love to teach kids, not something everyone can do. Such job is reserved for special people 🙂

    Remain blessed Anne.

Hi again Johnson, why do I always feel so uplifted and encouraged when you visit, of course knowing what a very honest person you are and sincere, then it must be true that I’m great 😀 no message please on humility, I’m way passed it! but seriously Johnson thank you for your kind affirmation and yes Children and I have an affinity. My first full time Job was with Children in an Orphanage as a live in carer and Pre – School Kindergarten teacher and then I was a Governess until I married. Children are very special to me and have brought me much Joy.

I was teaching one day and a little boy wanting centre stage said to me…. your nearly as old as my great Grandmother, I was in my early fifties at the time and then he beamed and said she is 100 and got a letter from the Queen , when I recovered, I asked him how old did he think I was, he quickly replied, well not as old as Granny your only about 99, for the first time in my life I thought about plastic surgery 😦 but Ron assured me the little boys perception was way off, he only thought I was in my eighties, many years later I decided to forgive him when I remembered he was older then me by more then a few years, at least outwardly anyway, he can sometimes be very much a little boy at heart, a part of him I Love very much.

Thanks again Johnson – Christian Love Anne.

To be Truthful Love we are quiet rotten till we put our flesh nature to death, and are perfected in Love, it’s all about us, we are so self absorbed, untill we do,
