The Donkey

One day a Farmer’s Donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours and the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, although sad, he decided  that  he could not let him suffer and as the well was also dry the kindest thing to do for the donkey was to fill it in.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey cried horribly, everyone felt sorry for the Donkey but could see no other way to help it not suffer.

Then, to everyone’s amazement he  quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw…

With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing…

He would shake it off and take a step up.

So the farmer’s neighbours quickly continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, and were  excited to see him shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon,  the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Sometimes in life we feel like dirt is being shovelled on us all kinds of dirt…

The answer to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up.

Each of our troubles can be a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! by shaking  it off and taking a step up.

  1. Thanks for the reminder Anne.
When we put God between us and our circumstances, we are no longer “under the circumstances” but under Him and He is above all.
He will enable us to use every obstacle as a stepping stone as He continues His work in us, bringing us more and more towards His goal for us of Christlikeness.

    What an amazing God!

Hi Angela, yes God can cause all things to work together for good but He does not use suffering or hardship to mold and shape us, many are destroyed or loose what faith they have because of them, it is not His will that we are burdened, Jesus tells us come to Him when we are heavy burdened and He tells us He will uphold us through the hardships and suffering we encounter. Unlike Satan who puts us to the test with evil happenings in our life seeking to cause us to reject Jesus Christ untill we die. God uses what is good and uplifting to strengthen our Faith and to teach us, evil is not from God or used by Him even though He can bring good out of it because when we suffer and turn to Him, we see His Love for us and as He upholds us and rescues us our Faith is strengthened.

Hi daoud alahmad, I appreciate that you like the Donkey story and it’s message. I liked it too and I like to encourage those who have shared from their gifting by sharing it with others. I also share my own stories or messages as others do but what ever we do it must be to glorify God, although it is not wrong to be thanked and blessed for the things we do in His name even if many think it’s prideful and so they reject Awards etc, and sadly I use to think the same but if it is from God what we share, then it still is all about Him anyway, He created us, equipes us, inspires us, and motivates us, when we are in Christ Jesus.

So is God prideful, no He is giving us the opportunity to express what is in our heart, we need to have faith in a Awesome, Loving and Faithful God to be whole and complete and we need to share our Love for Him freely and it will be reflected in our Love for others, regardless of who they are, we may not agree with what they do but we don’t reject them.

      Christian Love Anne.
