John 3:16 ” I Don’t Understand it “

“A young boy was selling newspapers on the corner, the people were in and out of the cold but because he was so cold he  huddled up and didn’t sell many papers .

He walked up to a policeman and said, “Mister, you wouldn’t happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep tonight would you?

You see, I sleep in a box up around the corner there and down the alley and its awful cold in there for tonight.

Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay.”

The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, “You go down the street to that white house and you knock on the door. When they come out the door you just say John 3:16 and they will let you in.”So he did.

He walked up the steps and knocked on the door, and a lady answered. He looked up and said,”John3:16.”

The lady said, “Come on in, Son.”

She took him in and she sat him down in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went off.

The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself…  John 3:16… I don’t understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm.

Later she came back and asked him “Are you hungry?” He said, “Well, just a little. I haven’t eaten in a couple of days,  and I guess I could stand a little bit of food,”

The lady took him in the Kitchen and sat him down to a table full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn’t eat any more. Then he thought to himself

John3:16… Boy, I sure don’t understand it but it sure makes a hungry boy full

She then took him upstairs to a bathroom to a shiny bathtub filled with warm water, and he sat there and soaked for a while.  As he soaked, he thought to himself: John3:16 …

I sure don’t understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy clean. You know, I’ve not had a bath, a real bath, in my whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out.

The lady came in and got him.

She took him to a room, tucked him into a big old feather bed, pulled the covers up around his neck, kissed him goodnight and turned out the lights. As he lay in the darkness and looked out the window at the snow coming down on that cold night, he thought to himself…

John3:16 … I don’t understand it but it sure makes a tired boy rest.

The next morning the lady came back up and took him down again to that same big table full of food.

After he ate, she took him back to that same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fireplace and picked up a big old Bible.

She sat down in front of him and looked into his young face. “Do you understand John 3:16?” she asked gently. He replied, “No, Ma’am, I don’t. The first time I ever heard it was last night when the policeman told me to use it,”

She opened the Bible to John3:16 and began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there, in front of that big old fireplace, he gave his heart and life to Jesus and so started his walk to find the better way as he trusts and obeys.

He sat there and thought: John3:16 I don’t understand it, but it sure makes this lost boy feel safe and contented.

When we have The Love of God  in our heart we can understand how God was willing to send His Son to die for us and why Jesus would agree to do such a thing. We may never fully  understand the agony of the Father and the Angels in Heaven as they watched Jesus suffer and die…

But we know it was because of His intense Love for You and Me and all Mankind  that kept Jesus on the Cross till the end…

It sure does make life worth living!

John 3:16  For God so Loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Our Heavenly Father, is our source of our existence. He keeps us functioning each and every day and as we seek His way we have His Victory, He does not cause us to suffer or willingly let harm come our way but He does Discipline us by letting us seek our own will and so we suffer for going  our own way. Philippians 4:13

We show by our Godly words and actions that we Love God and others even our enemies…

James 2:15-17  Suppose a Brother or a Sister  in the Lord is without clothes and daily food.  If we say  to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but we do nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Galatians 6:9-11  Let us not become tired of doing good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as God gives us the opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Wonderful what a warm felt story about our Heavenly Father. God is always willing to help us in our time of need and we should always be the same in helping others. With what Jesus did for us on the cross how could we not.

    • Thank you Brerwin for visiting and sharing both above and below, yes I too love these, Heart touching Stories and I have received many over the years by e-mail and in books I have read.

You are very wise in your focus Brerwin as shown in your responses below……

“God is always willing to help us in our time of need and we should always be the same in helping others. With what Jesus did for us on the cross how could we not.”

And also…… “With what Jesus did for us on the cross how could we not give freely to others.”

We cannot of course judge them to be less than us either, our Sin also put Jesus on the Cross, this does not mean we accept the evil they do just as we don’t accept it in ourselves but we are to Love and Help them if needed like God does for us and yes even before we Repent and accept the free Gift of Salvation in Jesus and are Perfected in Love but of course until we have Heart Repentance we don’t have close fellowship with Him, our Sin separates us.

Christian Love Brerwin and God’s Blessings,
      Anne ( Grannie Annie)

Wonderful, what a great truth about our Heavenly Father. He is always there in a time of need and we should be also. With what Jesus did for us on the cross how could we not give freely to others.

Your very welcome. 🙂 I heard this story in a recorded sermon and then was blessed to hear it again at my church, so I thought it must be written online somewhere, then I found it on your wordpress blog and figured “might as well re-blog it since it’s been blogged already and it has nice pictures to go along with it too”,

        God bless 🙂

  12. This post touched my heart. If only all Christians lived John 3:16! I seen the true meaning of that verse in all the prayers that went up for Wendy. Christians are supposed to HELP one another. WE are a “family” or brothers and sisters in the Lord, yet so few actually LIVE it. Great post Anne! I am truly humbled by it. God bless!

You also humble me Bob with you Love for others, I know the suffering and hardship you have endured and most was not your fault and yet instead of becoming bitter like a lot do you Love and seek to help others. God has indeed used what you went through for good, not that He caused you to suffer, as you know He can do no evil, He is Love but through your Love He touches others and shows them His Love.

Thank you Bob and I look forward to sharing with Wendy again too when she is better.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
