Lost Contact

I started up the rock as fast as I could, determined to “set my face like a flint” toward the peak.

After a time, I came to a difficult ledge, and my breathless scrambling came to an abrupt halt.

Suddenly, the rope was pulled too taut and hit me square in the eye.  “Oh NO!”  I thought wildly,

 “My contact lens is gone!”

From my precarious perch I looked everywhere on the rope and sharp granite rock for a tiny, transparent lens, which could easily be mistaken for a water droplet.

Lord Jesus, help me find it!” I prayed and pleaded, knowing the hopelessness of my search with such limited mobility.

I looked as long as I could maintain my hold, praying with a sinking heart.

Finally I resumed my climb with one last glimmer of hope — maybe the contact was still in my eye, crumpled in the corner or up under my eyelid.

When I reached the top, I had a friend check to see if she could find it in my eye.  It wasn’t there.  Every hope was gone.

I was disappointed and anxious about getting a new contact so far away from home.

As we sat and rested, surveying the world from such a gloriously high perspective, the fragment of a verse popped into my head…..

“The eyes of God go to and fro through the whole earth.”

God knows exactly where my contact is this moment from His high vantage point, the amazing thought struck me.

But I’ll never see it again, I concluded.  So, still glum, I headed down the path to the bottom where others were preparing to climb.

About half an hour later another girl set out where I had also begun my climb.

She had no inkling of the missing contact.  But there, at the steep bottom of the rock face, she let out an excited cry  “Hey you guys, did anyone lose a contact?”

I rushed over as she continued yelling,

There’s an ant carrying a contact down the mountain!”

Sure enough.  Special delivery!  I bent down, retrieved my contact from the hard working ant, doused it with water and put it back in my eye, rejoicing.

I was in awe, as if my Father had just given me, though so undeserving, a big hug and said…..

“My precious daughter, I care about every detail of your life.”

I wrote to tell my family.

My dad drew a cartoon portraying an ant, lugging a big contact five times its size.

The ant was saying to God…

Lord, I don’t understand why You want me to drag this thing down!  What use is it anyway?  I don’t even know what it is, and I certainly can’t eat it and it’s so big and heavy. “

Oh well, if You say so, Lord, I’ll try, but it seems like a useless piece of junk to me!”

It would probably do some of us good to occasionally say, “God, I don’t know why you me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it’s awfully heavy.  But, if you want me to carry it, I will.”

God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

I marvel at God’s ways and how He chooses to reveal His Mercy….. in ways far beyond our human comprehension.

“…GOD doesn’t call the qualified, HE qualifies the called…” I heard the used on a Christian television network YEARS AGO and it stuck with me. “God calls the foolish things to confound the wise”. So true! HIS MERCY/LOVE never fails, never gives up on us, we are the ones who give up on ourselves. Thank you so much for posting this. Anointed messages will give correction, too 🙂

What a beautiful response hodgepodge4thesoul and yes indeed God’s planes for us are good, He does not cause us harm the same as we would not cause those we Love to suffer or have hardship. God is Love and can do no evil but yes He brings good out of it.
and you are so right … I would be one of God’s most cracked vessels but He is the Superglue and when He restores us we don’t leak … How good is that!

Thank you for blessing us – Christian Love Anne

Whew! I use to wear contacts, so I understand that precise moment when the blasted lens leaves the eye unannounced. It was thoughtful of the Godly ant to return the eye piece though! 🙂
    God Bless You!

Hi Dei, so did I use contacts but found that my fingers were forever in my eyes trying to sort them out that I couldn’t see anything, so after walking around nearly blind for weeks I fould that I didn’t look so bad with glasses on… Vanity Fair!

For any of you who doubt this is true: When I first gave my life to Jesus and was beginning to know that I could pray for personal needs, I had this experience:
My husband and I were wallpapering a wall for his sister. A very small piece tore from a strip and he pasted it on the wall next to where he was working. If any of you have done wallpapering you know how important that small piece is. When wallpaper tears it tears in layers and when you past it back it fits perfectly. When he went to retrieve the piece it was not there. We searched high and low and could not find it. I prayed: “Lord, if one of my children needed something and I knew where it was, I would give it to him. I know you know where that tiny piece is, please show me.” I thought to look on the bottom of my shoe and there it was. God is able and wants to help us in any situation. We need to remember to ask.

  8. What a wonderful way to deliver a message of a loving God. The feeling of love that comes through brought tears to my eyes. I have been the one who lost contact and sometimes been the ant. I wish I could say that I’ve always, like this ant, carried the load anyway and uncomplaining . . . the path we walk with Him is not always easy but He’s with us on it. How amazing is that?

Hi Martha so good to have you share with us and yes like the Ant we do indeed wonder why we are carrying this heavy load but God will bring good from anything we have to endure and He helps carry our load as He promises, His plans for us are for good and not to harm us … How very good is that!

You are indeed a blessing Martha- Christian Love Anne.

I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award, but I wish you to know that I have changed the rules somewhat. I have listed the standard rules but included the fact that I do not feel anyone is obliged to follow them. I hope that you will accept this award even if you feel that you can not pass it on. This is an award because I appreciate you and do not feel that you are obliged to do anything.

Hi loopyloo305 thank you for your kindness, I was going to offer it to you so I will offer you some differant Awards instead. I try to keep within the rules that those who created the Awards set but I understand that we need to decide if we will accept these Awards as they are or reject them, for me of course I don’t want to hurt someone unless there is error and correction is needed, then yes they may be hurt, but it is in how we accept Godly correction too not just how it is presented. So thank you for thinking of me but perhaps you will receive a differant Award that I can share with you.

Hi Ron, just as well we don’t have to be Ants to be used by God, as you once shared when you were Preaching… God tells us to shape up and He will use us for good… the Scripture was or His exact words were …

2 Timothy 2:20-22 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonor. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, Love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (KJV)
