City of Jerusalem from New Testament Times, Damascus Gate
Hi everyone, I mentioned in my last post, about encouragement, well the master of that gift was Barnabas. Saul`s conversion was so quick that he had a problem of credibility. No sooner was he converted and he was preaching so powerfully, that the Scriptures say that the Jews in Damascus couldn’t refute his claims, that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. No wonder they had to move him out of Damascus , his friends got him out through a house they had on the wall of the city.
Isn`t it ironic , the previous unjust Persecutor becomes the unjustly Persecuted. Paul without the Holy Spirit condemned others by his own understanding and when empowered by The Holy Spirit and speaking God’s word he was condemned by those who trusted in their own understanding.
Now 3 years later he arrives in Jerusalem, where many in the Church doubted the genuineness of his conversion. Here we find Barnabas being mentioned , he had a great standing in that Church but now he was going to put his standing on the line for this newcomer Saul, for he believed in him having been convicted by The Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:26-28 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the Disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus
