Grandma’s Apron

The principal use of Grandma’s Apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready,Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that “old-time apron” that served so many purposes.

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool…

Her Granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

To day as we look back we can see so many changes even since we were Children.

So many different ways of doing things, ways to cut down on time so we can have more time for Leisure, and yet even when we do take time out to rest we feel something is missing the long awaited Vacation does not seem to be enough.

This is because People’s needs haven’t Changed even if things have, we still long to be Loved, Appreciated and Needed.

No one is an Island and even if they were…

An Island still needs Water.

We will always need each other but first we need to have a Loving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, He is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever and when we Rest in Him…

He will fill us with His Living Water and we will feel Complete and Fulfilled not just in the Future but now. Revelation 7: 14-17

And when we at last find the Lord’s Rest we put on our Apron because…

There is work to be done and the Rewards… well they are out of this World and yet even now we can enjoy them…

John 4:10-14

 Music- Knowing You

All I once held dear built my life upon

All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this

(Chorus:)
Knowing you, Jesus knowing you
There is no greater thing
You’re my all you’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love you,Lord

Now my heart’s desire is to know you more
To be found in you, and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All surpassing gift of righteousness

(Chorus)
Knowing you, Jesus knowing you
There is no greater thing
You’re my all you’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love you,Lord

Oh to know the power of your risen life
And to know you in your suffering
To become like you in your death my Lord
So with You to live and never die

(Chorus)
Knowing you, Jesus knowing you
There is no greater thing
You’re my all you’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I Love you, Lord.

We recently did a Mother/Daughter (we call it Daughter to Daughter as not all are Moms, but all are Daughters) theme around this. It was beautiful 🙂

Thank you Dunia, I think what stands out to me the most in this story is we are not an Isand and even if we were we would need water or we wouldn’t be a real Island. This is True for Christians too without The Living Water we are just not in Christ Jesus.

      Christian Love Anne.

Hi Ron so True, to Love anyone we need God’s Love first which we ask Him for. He tells us in the Scriptures our Love for Him is expressed in our obedience to Him and our Love for others, who wants to hurt someone when we Love them, but sadly untill we are perfected in Love we may hurt both God and others, but not so when we walk in Love by His empowering, because we would never choose to hurt anyone instead we would choose to forgive and restore, if we have the mind of Christ .

      Christian Love Anne.

  5. Yes, Anne, we all need to be loved, needed and appreciated…we need to “matter” to someone. Far and above any “someone” is our heavenly Father; we matter to Him. Amen!
